Mother of the bride and groom
We LOVE working with the mums. We have so much more freedom in terms of colour and styles compared to working with the brides usually.
This year has been so busy. We have made different designs and worked in every colour you can imagine. We want to show you some of the lovely dresses we worked on this year.
Gold is always a popular colour. It’s classic, without season and timeless. Here is a lovely one we did, photographed by Craig & Eva Saunders.

Pastel colours for mum
We had a lot of softer shades of pink. I think pretty much every shade of pink was represented this year.
Stronger shades to go with the brides and grooms
We also worked in more strong greens and teal colours. I feel so proud when I see this range of colours as it is probably not the “normal” range of colours for mums, and I love when they go out and pick what they love and suit instead of what is expected of them.
Here is Gail’s beautiful embroidered and beaded lace back, Valerie’s incredible green silk satin and silk crepe asymmetric dress, with Hat by Sally Ann Provan
Anne in teal silk crepe and silk satin.
These 2 ladies are such fun, and I was delighted to get this photo of them both. A fake wrap dress with a Fuchsia pink wide collar and edgings and this lovely brocade in a turquoise colour.
We also worked with fuchsia pink, an all-time favourite. Madgery looks incredible here with a silver crystal belt on the pink. We made so many with pink or berry colours in many different designs.
This was quite a different dress to work on. It is a pale pink dress with a rose pink overlay of silk organza; we made a lot of details in the silk organza. Once the semi-sheer fabric is doubled or tripled up, it has a much stronger colour. We made the folded neckline and added a lot of little flowers in organza and satin with little hand-beading on.
Another favourite colour is all variations of blue colours. Here are a few dresses we made in this soft blue shade. This first one has a soft sweep to the side.
Denim blue stunning pure silk satin slip dress with geometric cuts on the front and a pure silk chiffon two-tone silk chiffon coat over.
This outfit we created with a fitted silk dupion dress with a silk organza coat overall. We had the belt and belt buckle made in the fabric and the buttons. This outfit was so perfect for Linda, and she just looked so great with her short hair and great accessories.
This was another favourite from this year. The dress is pretty and understated with a deep cowl neck front. We made this dress in a soft blue silk crepe. We made a couple of different belts to give the dress different looks. Here is the one with a navy grosgrain belt; this looks a bit more business-like than the one we made with a pearl trim. This is a beautifully versatile and classic dress to wear again and again.
Blue silk dupion dress with polka dot mesh overlay. Liz loves polka dots, so this was such a fun and lovely take on a classic polka dot dress.
This year we also really enjoyed working in striking prints; it’s been a few years since we had so many requests for prints. They are so gorgeous and have turned out great. All three ladies are going to wear those soft and comfortable dresses again.
We made a few dresses in different lilac tones. It is very interesting when we make a pale-coloured dress in light floaty fabrics. They look so much like summer dresses. When we change the fabric to a warmer fabric the dress becomes quite different. We love this wool crepe dress in lilac with a matching headdress from Bridget Webster.
Here is how we can help
We love working with any mother of the bride and groom. As you can see, we have no shortage of styles and ideas we are working with. We always take into consideration:
-Type of wedding, is it cathedral or beach?
-Season? Scottish winter or Beach in Thailand?
-Colour? advice on what colour suits you and work with the wedding
-Styles? what styles suit you? How do you look at your best?
-You? What makes you feel comfortable and fabulous in your superpowers? We want to tap into that.
We take all these on board and start designing and sketching ideas and designs. You will get a proper proposal describing how much the garment would be in the different fabrics and with the different levels of detail. Next up, we take your measurements.
We ask you to agree to the details, and so we begin.
First, we make a “template” of your dress, a calico version of the outfit, to ensure it fits you. Next up is the making of the “real” dress. You will be invited back to try that on. Last we finish it, you can come and try it on and pick it up.

We can’t wait to hear from you and make your dream outfit.
