Winter Princes bride Francesca, planned her wedding for a long time and Covid intervened with all her amazing plans. The bride’s family lives in Canada, which made the plans all the more tricky to do.
That dress
The thing which was not up for debate was the wedding dress and it had to be bespoke. Francesca wanted this full skirt with a long train, she wanted some shoulder detail and she wanted detachable sleeves, really tight with button details. She wanted buttons all the way down the back.
Yes, a lot of things to get on with. Lots of traditional wedding dress details. Francesca went for a dull satin. I feel it was such a good option as the dress details would stand more out on a dress that was not shiny.
Usually, I would tell about the dress and how wonderful it was to make. And I must say, this was too, but it actually gave us some really tricky technical challenges. we tried to do the big collar piece, but with the interlining to make it crisp, it was too heavy for the bodice to hold it up. Anyway… as you can see we made it! But a bit of sleeplessness was developed in the process.
The undersleeves in the crepe fabric have button details too. If you look closely, you will see the sleeves are off on some of the photographs. The sleeves were detachable. The mother of the bride was armed with scissors and instructions on how to remove the sleeves, and I actually love both looks with and without the sleeves.
Venue and photographer
The amazing Dromtochty Castle in Aberdeenshire was the venue for the wedding. It is one of my favourite places for winter weddings. It’s just stunning.
