Teal off-the-shoulder wedding dress
This teal off-the-shoulder wedding dress ticks all the boxes for us. It is no secret we LOVE coloured wedding dresses. Here is a gorgeous one we made for Lisa in August. The bespoke dress has a ruched bodice and internal corset with boning and internal lace-up.
We made little buttons and loops in the silk georgette.
Lisa styled it so perfectly with her red lip and pin-up style hair.
The dress looks beautiful with the colours of the beautiful venue, “House for an Art Lover” Lisa did such a fantastic job colour-coordinating all the dresses, flowers and everything else at the wedding.
I don’t think everything needs to match and be the exact colour match; sometimes, that doesn’t work. But it takes more planning to arrange weddings with coloured wedding dresses than traditional ivory dresses.
When we make a ruched dress like this, we start by creating what could almost be described as a “shell”. It is a structured bodice with boning and, in this case, an internal lace-up. We then hang this on the tailor’s dummy. We then cut a big piece of the georgette on the bias. Then we start draping the georgette on the bodice, pinning each different fold in many places. We then secure each fold by tacking by hand until after the fitting.
To make this, we need to use pliable and soft fabrics.
Once the client has approved the size and amount of folds, we secure them with tiny hand stitching.
Thank you so much to the McGlynn sisters for letting us use their beautiful images.
