Canongate Kirk Wedding
This wedding is one I have been very excited about being part of. Flora’s mum, Jane has been a client and friend of the shop for a long long time. She has such great taste and love for colour, and we always love making outfits for her. We made Jane’s outfits for both her sons’ weddings too. So we were literally jumping with joy when the news arrived that Flora now was engaged.
Flora is so cool. She is amazing at sports and she has been representing Great Britain on the world stage and was part of the GB sailing team for a decade. Her dedication to her training is amazing. But, when it comes to dresses she was less so on home ground. It was great to work with Flora she tried on pretty much all our dresses and we ended up with a beautiful dress she could look and feel amazing in.
Sadly covid hit and the wedding was on hold for a year and a bit. But the beautiful day arrived, the 3rd time it was planned and Flora and Matt had their amazing day.
Flora has a full circle skirt in silk organza with jacquard rose design. The bodice was a silk taffeta V-neck top. We made a 3D lace decoration on the side back of the skirt with a hook under this was so Flora could hook up the train when she walked.
Flora went for a single tier veil she wore with an Alice band we covered with the silk.
For the Ceremony Flora had a pure silk crepe jacket with a Boat neck and buttons down the back. We love how this classic look looks amazing with Matt’s Royal Navy uniform.
Mother of the Bride, Grandmother of the bride and little niece
But… we had another 3 outfits at this wedding. First was Flora’s little niece. We made her a silk dupion dress with the Stewart tartan belt bow and buttons. She is so cute, and clearly stole quite a bit of the limelight.
Jane obviously had a stunning outfit too. Jane has such an eye for colour and we love how she looks in this strong coral. The dress was made in matching colours whiplash pure silk chiffon and pure silk satin, half circle skirt and collar and buttons. The fabric was so exclusive and moved so beautifully. Alex Muir made a stunning hat for Jane. The trimmings were dyed to match the dress.
The last outfit was for Flora’s grandmother. She is a much-loved matriarch of the family. She went for a shirt dress in beautiful silk. The base was cream and it had a lovely pink print. The fabric also had a woven jacquard pattern. Over that dress, she wore a blue and pink Linton Tweed coat. Alex Muir also made this great hat to match.
I have been so excited to share this wedding from Canongate Kirk the Kirk of Holyrood House and Edinburgh Castle. Cars form Edinburgh Classic Wedding Cars and the reception was held at the Bonham’s Hotel. My friends Gwenne and Karen from Mckenzie Hair design and Karen Bowen Make-up did all the hair and make-up. And the very super Ditte from Firstlight wedding photography was there on the day and captured the day so beautifully.
