Lockdown Wedding

Lockdown wedding So many of you have asked how all my amazing brides have coped with the lockdown. Well here is Mairi, her wedding was planned to take place that weekend when the whole country shut down. The week before they made a lot of changes to the wedding plans, including cancelling the large reception they had planed for many months. The couple had decided to still go ahead with the ceremony. Only the day before the church they belong to contacted them to say, they were worried about the safety. Then the church suggested to do the ceremony in…

Buying your wedding dress

Buying your wedding dress I met a woman a couple of weeks ago, out with work, she had just got married. When she heard I worked with weddings, she was so excited to share all her stories from her wedding planning. Stories from her big day and the Honeymoon. Full of enthusiasm she told me all the details she had worked on and planned for months, nothing left to coincidence. But then, she started to talk about her dress. and a shadow went over her face. She had gone for a really high-end dress, and the Bridal shop only got…

Ballerina length wedding dress

Ballerina length was the perfect length for Rachel’s wedding dress.  She picked three different qualities of silk for her bespoke wedding dress. She chooses a lovely taffeta for the bodice and skirt. The skirt is made with a silk organza overlay on the skirt. Then with a silk satin belt on the waist. The skirt is cut as a full circle so we have lots and lots of silk in the skirt to give the lightness and the movement that makes the dress so crips and elegant. Rachel loves colors,  she decided to pick flowers from an autumnal garden with…

African Inspired Wedding Dress

Wedding dress inspired by Africa Africa is Alex’s passion, so much so, she has set up a business arranging luxury travels to Africa called Extraordinary Africa.  She is a busy girl but still arranged a beautiful wedding at her parent’s farm in Northamptonshire. When Alex first came to us she told us the very happy news that she was in the early stages of pregnancy. We made a plan for her dress, choosing style fabrics and details. We then did a calico fitting and then we put the dress to the side for a few months. When there were only…

Inky Blue Wedding Dress

An inky blue wedding dress was what Elaine was set on when we met. We played around with many shades of blue, much lighter ones and stronger ones. We then looked at this stunning inky blue colour, and it was set. The wedding was going to be a small affair with all the couples, close family, in the library at the stunning The Hub, followed by a meal. In the evening all their friends had been invited to a grand party in the big hall at The Hub. The dress is constructed with a boned structured bodice in a luxurious…

Jumpsuit Bride with Cape

Jumpsuit brides we love! It is such a pleasure when we have brides with great contemporary ideas. Imogen was such a bride. Working as a makeup artist on film sets and period documentaries, she has such an eye for a really cool style. The couple had a huge schedule planned around the Wedding. Imogen is from Australia. The couple was in the process of wrapping up their life in Scotland and move to Australia to live there. Lots and lots to do, but the top of the list was a lovely wedding day, to celebrate with friends and family. Sloans…

Fife Bridal Photoshoot

A Fife Bridal Photoshoot shows up in the diary, and we get excited! Our friend Duncan Holmes kindly got an invitation to this new beautiful venue. The venue is called The Den at Culross. Taking full advantage of this opportunity. Duncan robes in a full creative team for Fife Bridal Photoshoot: Model Lynne Stewart as well as hair and makeup artist Sarah Mitchell. The weather was really kind on the day. Lynne enjoyed getting some movement into that big skirt when she moved. This wedding dress is tulle with Metalic polka dots in many colours. It’s the perfect dress for…

Soft Silk Wedding Dress

soft silk dress

Soft silk wedding dress in different materials and textures was the starting point for this wedding dress. Eleanor likes soft to touch materials and wearing tops that are stylish, and simple and without structure. Making a bespoke wedding dress like that starts with sketches and playing around with ideas and fabric swatches. We were initially working towards a 2 piece, with a skirt and a top, but we ran into difficulties. We saw lines through the silk where the 2 joined. Getting in and out of the 2 pieces was also a challenge. Therefore, we made the call to make…

Women Supporting Each Other

Here is a little piece about 4 women who came together to work and supporting each other: Once in a while, like a lunar eclipse or a blue moon, a dynamic shift occurs. Two forces join together. Combined, they have the potential to create an exciting change. Freja Designer Dressmaking, based in Edinburgh is a women-run business and Vows Wedding Gown Awards Finalist. Shelley Grierson, a Ms Great Britain Finalist for 2019/2020 teamed up recently with the Freja team. They wanted to work together, on raising the profile of women in business, and in particular within the fashion and beauty…
