Turquoise…. bringer of good fortune!

When my good friend Jo’s then boyfriend proposed to her… I was so happy for her… and even more excitement, when she asked me to make her dress.  Jo was certain, she wanted a colour, she went for turquoise, as John John always loved her in that colour. I had a formal appointment with Jo: it was really difficult as we usually just giggle and make no sense at all. But I needed to know all about what she wanted from her dress. I love making coloured wedding dresses, but I think they must be very distinctive, and must have something exclusive about…

Textures and very lush silks

I was delighted when Francesca contacted me regarding her Wedding Dress, she already had the venue, the gorgeous George Hotel and her florist Planet Flowers (who we love!!) And she already knew the silhouette she wanted. Francesca had decided for a ballerina length dress with a nipped in waist. and straps. We thought it would be nice to work with different textures in some quite exclusive fabrics to create a very simple, stylish and elegant look that would suit both Francesca and feel of the venue. We ended up with this result, and i think it works brilliantly. Francesca had…

Mothers in greens and blues.. and pretty shoes

It is always hard for a mother of the bride.. or harder for the mother of the groom to chose her outfit for a wedding, here are some mums in greens and blues for inspiration. It is common practice that the mother of the bride will chose her outfit first, and then the other of the groom. Usually the bride will have chosen her dress, and often her bridesmaids colour too, so it is important to get it all to work together. We make a lot of outfits for mothers… here are a few for you to see. Sky Blue…

City Sleek Vintage Glamour

Claire came to see me in May last year. She had some great ideas for the style she wanted for her wedding, a very sophisticated city wedding. Her reception venue was The Scotsman Hotel, she wanted all the vintage glamour she could manage, but in a very sophisticated sleek way, no bohemiean feel to it. Claire was in the process of loosing weight, she had done amazingly well even before i met her first time, so i knew, she knew what it took to meet her target. The funny thing was her body had changed shape so much that she…

Debbie’s Dress

Debbie’s Dress Debbie contacted us last winter and we had a wee chat about her dress. Debbie was great she had firm ideas about what she wanted. she wanted no train, and an easy to wear dress for her wedding day. Her and David had decided they were going to get married on her Auntie and Uncles farm and wanted to keep the summery rustic feel to her day. The result was beautiful, she had her dress made of a matte pure silk Duchesse satin, it has an overlay of a lovely really fine lace with a floral pattern. The…

Love My Dress Soiree

In the summer we got an invitation to the LoveMyDress Soiree. Love My Dress Blog is a great inspiration for us wedding people and brides. It’s a great source of ideas and great to keep up to date at all times. The Soiree was to be a big get-together of all wedding suppliers in the UK. We are a quite close knit group, we are all active users on Facebook and Twitter. I feel so very very lucky to have such supporting and talented colleagues. The event was amazing. The amount of organisation which must have gone into every detail…

Re: Make summer workshop in Cromrie Croft

My Friend Fiona McGarva is a very talented lady, she is a recognised glass artist, Fiona McGarva and like me she is very interested in issues relating to both education and the environment. It seemed a brilliant idea, that she together with her husband Danny Gilbert was to set up her company called Re:make. re:makescotland Re:make is a social enterprise. The main aim to educate people to get new skills and to learn to make new beautiful things out of old stuff, scraps or unwanted things. Remake’s summer workshop programme was amazing lot of workshops to teach children and adults different skills and to experience the…

Big Ideas, Tiny Details

At this time last year we were working on this amazing wedding. I must say it is one of the most fun weddings ever to have been part of. The bride was none other than Gemma, who is director of Planet Flowers an amazing contemporary events florist company in Edinburgh. Gemma has an amazing eye for style and details and impeccable taste and as if it wasn’t enough, she has endless energy for “wedding-DIY”. The Photograper was Blue Sky Photography we love their work. The venue was Hopetoun House. Lots of other of our “wedding-friends” were involved, and the whole…

Scottish Summer, enough said!

Do you remember the Tuesday before last? well, that was the day when we did a photoshoot in the Edinburgh Royal Botanics on a Scottish Summer Day. We being: John Cheung the photographer, Make-up-Artist-Lynda-Joyce,  Sarah from the Modelteam in Glasgow, Me… in charge of flowers kindly supplied by Planet Flowers, and the head dresses, from Rene Walrus, and obviously.. our dresses. We had a ball, and we think we got some good shots in before it went all crazy, but we would like to hear what you think. Gold star to Sarah, who managed to run for shelter at the John Hope…

Spring Wedding at the Signet Library

We have been very busy over the last couple of months, with more weddings than ever before. Joanna came to us with ideas of what she liked and we really enjoyed working with her. We knew Joanna already, as we had worked with her the year before, when we made her sisters lovely wedding dress and wedding coat. Joanna was also a bridesmaid wearing a “Freja” dress, so it was a joy to see her and her family back. The wedding turned out just like she wanted it, a spring wedding in the city. I would like to show you her pictures. We created Joanna’s…
