Everybody has a beautiful body – Finding your personal style and confidence

We get so many women through our doors every month for the dressmaking services we provide. More often than not there is a bit of exploring to do when it comes to defining a style. Many women come to us not feeling particularly confident in themselves. They maybe don’t know how to dress to their body type or don’t feel like they have a definitive personal style. Our aim is always to help in finding your personal style and confidence.

Throughout the years and eras, there has been an ever-changing ‘beauty standard’ and ‘sample size’. Many women of today believe that you have to be a size 8 to be beautiful but that is not the case.

Mys Tyler (2024), a women’s fashion inspiration tool, surveyed women’s body types and dress sizes. Taking data from over 32,000 Australian women between 18 and 75 (whose dress sizes run the same as the UK). The survey showed that the average Australian woman wears a size 16, with over 2/3 of the women in the survey being a size 14 and above. Every body type is beautiful and it should be embraced. The statistics showed that more Australian women wear a size 22 than a size 8. With the average cup size of women being a DD.

48% of women would call themselves ‘curvy’ while 34% of women would say they are ‘full figured’. Perception and confidence can change your view of your own body. If you saw a woman with your body you would think she was beautiful. If you, yourself, can find the confidence that others have then you will feel more confident in the garments you wear.

What is Mys Tyler? Mys Tyler is an online platform and style inspiration tool. Women can see what others are wearing. Matching to body type, height, age, cup size. It’s the perfect way to find garments that will suit you too. You can shop the exact clothing others are wearing through the app. I often post my creations on there, to inspire women to learn to sew and create fitting and flattering outfits of their own. It is also a great way to see how many others may style areas of their body that you don’t know how to. For instance, dressing large cup sizes, or maybe finding clothes that work well if you are very petite.

Women’s bodies often go through fluctuations. Whether it’s monthly with your cycle. Due to bigger life changes like pregnancy, illness or menopause. Maybe you’ve been on a fitness journey and don’t know how to dress your new figure, or you’ve recovered from unhealthy patterns and are navigating life in a healthy body. There are so many tools to help you dress for confidence.

We created our sewing course for this exact reason. Not only to teach women to sew but to help them learn their bodies. Learning how to create garments that fit exactly how you like them. Creating the perfect length dress, the most flattering fit for your bust or your hips. Once you know how to dress I guarantee you’ll feel a new sense of confidence. Just look at the garments we’ve created so far.
