Sicily Wedding Dress
A wedding dress for a wedding in Sicily sounds like the stuff dreams are made of. Absolutely delighted to be asked by Shelley to make her beautiful dress for her. Shelley’s husband-to-be is from Scotland. We managed to do the wedding dress fittings when Shelley was up from Kent for family visits in Edinburgh.
That Dress!
So, the dress is made in a beautiful 100% silk crepe. The silk crepe made a fitted soft fishtail skirt with a big train.
The top is essentially a mesh bodice with hand-stitched lace on top. Taking great care to find a very fine mesh in the accurate skin colour for Shelley was really important to create that Illusion Neckline.
The bodice features a lot of hand-worked details as we layer the lace to create the right level of transparency but with the right amount of cover. The deep neckline front and back had lovely deep Scalloped edges. The lace we used was a very Cob-web-like Guipure lace. The silk satin belt really shows off the waist and fastens at the back with 2 tiny covered buttons.
Wedding dress jacket and accessories
The jacket Shelley chose a little later, and it was a great choice. The silk is the same as the skirt and has a lace back. There is a deep belt that fastens at the back with buttons and loops. The Jacket is one we have in our collection. The Bridal Jacket was a great choice to get two looks out of one dress.
The wedding ceremony was really formal, in an Italian Basilica, so it is great to be fairly covered up and modest-looking. With the dress and jacket together, the outfit falls into the lovely minimalist trends of wedding dresses started by Meghan Markle.
The Bridal Jacket allowed her to have the big reveal of the dress in stages. So lovely to see the lace of the dress just look out from the cuff.
We made a bespoke veil too. The veil had the edges of the same lace from the bodice around the edges, in short, with the jacket, it totally made a stunning detail.
The Wedding
I am writing this, during lockdown. We can all dream of going to Sicily and spend time with friends and family. It really is the stuff of dreams. Shelley’s family traveled from New Zealand to attend the wedding and The Grooms family from Edinburgh. It was a great event with the ceremony in the Church of San Sebastian and then the reception at Villa La Limonaia in Acireale, Sicily.
