Silk dress for New Zealand
It was such a joy making Aislinn’s bespoke wedding dress for her wedding in New Zealand. I have a soft spot for New Zealand and along with Aislinn just being the loveliest bride it made it one of my favourite projects ever.
That dress!
Aislinn had some lovely ideas when she came to us. She wanted a soft and very simple dress with a boat neckline and a low back. She wanted simple but still wanted to make some impact. Deciding for the silk crepe as her main fabric was perfect. It is so soft and luxurious, with a nice shine, without being shiny fabric.
We suggested a long train in pure silk chiffon satin. The long train is detachable, so it is easy to take off for the party at night. Aislinns dress has a belt detail. We also made a very large fabric flower to cover where the train attaches—making two big flowers so she could put another flower on the back when the train came off for the dancing.
It’s always so scary to make a dress to travel with. I am so worried it will get lost in transit. But Aislinn took it as hand luggage. We packed it for her in the case with lots of bubble wrap so it couldn’t get creased. The dress made it to the destination without any problem.
Pukekura Park
We love the photographs taken by Sandi Henderson. The beautiful couple went to a nearby park called Pukekura Park. How exciting is it to see the photographs with all the tropical plants? I love that.
Aislinn and David have their own wonderful love story. They travelled to David’s native New Plymouth in New Zealand to get married in David’s parent’s beautiful garden.
They had a lovely reception at the surf club with friends, families, and two sides of the world joining in the celebrations with a fun and informal party.
It was such a pleasure making this dress, and we are over the moon to be able to share this unique wedding with you all.
Thank you so so much to Sandra Henderson for supplying the beautiful photographs.
