We were so delighted to be asked to be involved in this wedding. It’s a lovely family we have worked with a lot. It feels such an honour to be asked to create such important garments for a big family wedding. For this special day, we not only had the chance to make the bride’s dream wedding dress but also a piece for her mum and dresses for her bridesmaids. This wedding sadly had been swapped and changed many times due to covid. But it was all worth the hassle when it finally took place.
The Timeless Wedding Dress
For this wedding the bride wanted a timeless dress that looked elegant. The high collar, slim V neck, puff sleeves and narrow belt were all things that evolved during the design process and working closely with the bride. All these changes and details helped bring the brides vision to life, the bride herself said that “it came together perfectly”!
We made the wedding dress in pure silk zibeline. It was a really rich and structured dress with a stand up grown on collar and long sleeves. The skirt had very deep box pleats and a very long train. The belt and buckle were made in the same silk. Under the skirt was a detachable bustle in which the skirt could bustle up for the reception and come out for the evening.
We also made a long single tier veil. The veil was embellished with a very deep Chantilly lace scalloped edging.
I love the simple timeless elegance of this, it almost have a Royal feel to it. Carried by the stunning materials.
On the wedding day these are the pieces the bride had chosen to go with her bespoke wedding dress:
Shoes – Sargasso & Grey
Hairpiece – Ivory & Co.
Jewellery – Rings by Moira Patience Fine Jewellery
The Mother of the Bride
We also had the pleasure of making the Mother of the Bride outfit. She went for brocade coat and long trousers and a lace top, all made in the soft antique rose colour. She had 2 tops, so she could swap for the evening. The bride and her mum was so pleased with this piece: “We were so happy Mum was on board with wearing pink! It’s not a colour she wears often, but as soon as we saw this gorgeous fabric, we knew it would make a stunning coat.” We also made a bag to match and Sally Ann Provan made the head dress to match.
The Bridesmaid Dresses – A Colourful contrast to the Timeless Wedding Dress
We made the 5 bridesmaids beautiful wool crepe dresses. It is not a fabric often used for bridesmaids dresses, but it is one of my very favourite fabrics and the bride thought “it hung beautifully”! I feel it was a really good investment as the dresses are going to be so versatile. It’s a great gift for the bridesmaids who will be able to wear them again. They each chose their own necklines. The dresses are fully lined with bremsilk lining. The colours worked so well with the rest of this stunning colour scheme with flowers by…..
The bride said “loved the mix of jewel tones we chose, and my sisters’ teal blue dresses tied in perfectly with the groom’s tie and tartan.”
The Ceremony and Reception
The ceremony was held at The Parish of St Cuthbert’s in central Edinburgh, at the foot of the Castle Rock. It is believed to be the oldest Christian site in Edinburgh, and holds special meaning to the bride, whose grandparents were married here.
The reception was held at Barnbougle Castle, on the Dalmeny Estate near South Queensferry, is absolutely one of Edinburgh’s finest. With the sea views across the Forth. The bride said they “were especially grateful to the planning team at Barnbougle, as we postponed our wedding twice over 2 years due to the Covid Pandemic. They were fantastic to work with, and the setting is truly majestic.”
Thank you to photographers First Light Photography for the beautiful photographs below. We were over the moon when we heard they would be working with the photographer First Light Wedding. We love their work and they know this particular venue so well and have photographed it very often, and I love the pictures from the day.
