Wedding Jumpsuit with Skirt Overlay
Kirsty came to us with the idea of a wedding jumpsuit with skirt overlay! We’ve seen a lot more of these styles recently and we LOVE them!
This is such a gorgeous concept because you get two looks in one. We made the trousers in a cream triple crepe fabric. The skirt and collar were made in an ivory duchesse satin which complimented the rest of the look perfectly. She had the beautiful idea to create the bodice out of silk from her Granny had bought on a trip and kept safe for years. The silk had golden details on it, which looked sensational and was a special addition to an already special outfit. We also used an ivory bremsilk for the lining in the trousers. We just love how the gold vintage fabric gave such a vintage vibe to the outfit which actually was so contemporary in the cut and style.
Kirsty opted for a deep collar on the bodice sitting just on the shoulder and extending down the back. This style is super elegant! The last details were satin buttons and button loops to finish off the Jumpsuit portion.
We constructed the Jumpsuit then added a removable skirt with two deep pleats in the back attached to a belt. This is the perfect way to turn your wedding outfit from day to night – dress to jumpsuit, perfect for dancing till the wee hours. The detachable skirt had to deep pleats in the back and wrapped round to the front.
Convertible fashion is taking the bridal world by storm like removable/interchangeable sleeves and skirts. Its a great idea if you’re torn between a dress/jumpsuit/two piece.
Accessories
Really exciting that Kirsty’s family also had a very old bridal veil. It was so so beautiful. It was embroidered silk tulle and had been worn by different family members from many generations. I love the connection that gives to the older generations. As a textile person I so appreciated the work that had gone in to this very special veil and the care it has been shown by being correctly stored in all those years, free of moths and damp. Just so so special.
Mother of the Bride
We also made her lovely Mum’s dress too! Making other outfits for family members or bridal parties is something we love, we’ve done bridesmaids, mums (of course) and flower girls, to name a few!
Her mum Dhileas’ dress in Orissa Silk flowed beautifully, She opted for a turquoise dress with damson (plum coloured) piping. The dress featured a stand up collar and half circle skirt.
